Hospital Vastu

Hospital Vastu (Vastu Shastra for healthcare spaces) is about designing and arranging a hospital so that patients experience faster recovery, doctors and staff work efficiently, and the institution prospers while radiating healing energy. Since hospitals deal directly with life force, balance of the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, space) is considered very important.

Here’s what Hospital Vastu generally encompasses:

1. Site Selection & Orientation

  • Square or rectangular plots are ideal.

  • East- or North-facing entrances are considered best (they bring positivity and vitality).

  • Avoid irregular or cut plots.

2. Building Layout

  • Proper circulation and zoning (patients, doctors, administration, services).

  • Open space in the North and East for light and healing vibrations.

  • South and West can be heavier structures (wards, equipment).

3. Reception & Waiting Area

  • Reception → East or Northeast (welcoming energy).

  • Waiting area → North or East (comfort and positivity).

4. Emergency, ICU & Operation Theatres

  • Emergency ward → Southeast (fire zone, active energy for quick response).

  • ICU → Southwest (stable, healing energy).

  • Operation theatres → West or South, with doctors facing East while performing surgery.

5. Wards & Patient Rooms

  • General wards → South or West.

  • Special/Deluxe rooms → Northwest or South.

  • Patients’ heads ideally towards South or East (for peaceful recovery).

6. Consultation & Doctors’ Rooms
  • Doctors’ chambers → Southwest (authority and wisdom).

  • Consulting rooms facing East or North are best.

7. Diagnostic & Medical Facilities

  • Laboratories → West or South.

  • X-ray/MRI/CT scan → Southwest or South.

  • Pharmacy → Northeast or East (easy access, prosperity).

8. Support Areas

  • Kitchen/Canteen → Southeast (fire element).

  • Water storage → Northeast (pure healing vibrations).

  • Toilets → Northwest or Southeast (never in Northeast).

  • Mortuary/post-mortem room → Southwest (stable, less disturbance to main flow).

9. Staff Quarters & Administration

  • Staff quarters → Northwest or Southeast.

  • Accounts & admin office → North.

  • Chairman/owner/medical director’s cabin → Southwest.

10. Energy & Healing Atmosphere

  • Natural light and ventilation, especially in wards.

  • Plants, aquariums, or healing symbols in the North/East.

  • Use of calming colors (light green, blue, cream) for wards and waiting areas.

  • Avoid clutter or dark, unused corners.

In essence, Hospital Vastu aims to create a healing environment where patients recover quickly, staff remain stress-free, and the institution thrives in reputation and finances.
